Morvania is an island kingdom ('Tsarstvo' in morvanian). It is located 83 leagues northwest off of the coast of Brelea, about 4 leagues south of Arctica and 28 leagues southeast of Zogorra. It is inhabited mainly by Humans (Morvanians) and Ork tribes. Other races, like Elves and Dwarves have a presence in large cities, but outside of those they are rarely seen.
The country is famed for its abundant mineral resources (which include iron, coal and saltpeter), strong military and beautiful women.
Morvania is roughly located between the Sea of Souls and the Arctic Sea, northwest of the continent of Brelea, southeast of the continent of Zogorra and south of the Arctic continent.
The Morvyanskoye Tsarstvo ('Kingdom of Morvania' in common) is currently divided into 2 main regions: Krasny Bereg ('Red Shore' in common) and Belaya Dal' ('White Expanse' in common), each ruled by a Knyaz, personally appointed by the Tsar of Morvania, Nikolay Petrovich Volkov.
Most of the morvanian population resides in the southern region of Krasny Bereg. Due to its warmer temperatures, it is relatively easy to farm and hunt in these lands, meaning easier access to food, which has lead to people building most of their cities and villages in the region. Slayarsk is the capital of Krasny Bereg and of Morvania.
Belaya Dal' is the northern region of Morvania and although it is not as densely populated as its counterpart, it is extremely rich in terms of mineral resources, such as iron and coal. Cities and villages, many of which have large manufactories, have been founded with the intention of collecting and working these materials. The region is also home to several military Kreposti ('Forts' in common), built not only to keep the Ork tribes away from civilization, but also to train the morvanian military in the harsh tundra climate. Kuznevodsk is the capital of Belaya Dal' and the largest city in the region.
- A pine forest located on the southwestern side of the island, it gained its name due to the abundant amount of bears that roam there.
Zarosl' Snezhnoy Sovy
- Located on the Tsarskoya Noga ('King's Foot' in common) peninsula, this relatively unexplored woods are shrouded in myth and legend.
- Deep inside Morvania, this forest is extremely large and inhabited by wild beasts. Several well known paths exist and locals don't tend to stray too far from them and with good reason. Some Cossack villages exist in the southern parts of the forest.
- These woods located at the feet of a mountain range are mainly inhabited by wild animals and outlaws.
- Large mountain range in central Morvania, where snow storms are frequent.
- A small mountain range located on the northeastern side of the island, inhabited by large numbers of trolls.
- Named due to the fantastic view of Luna from the top of the range, these mountains are located in central Morvania, east of Snezhnye Gory.
Towns and cities Edit
- Morvanian capital. The city is located on the shores of Zaliv Dush ('Bay of Souls' in common), being an important cultural, artistic and commercial center. Home of the Tsar of Morvania.
- The northernmost city of the Tsarstvo, Kuznevodsk is located near the largest coal deposit on the island.
- Fortified city deep within the Temny Les, placed in a resource-rich valley.
- Important trade hub, largest producer of grain and southernmost city of the Tsarstvo.
- Trading port located just south of Rasbityy Krug.
- Main military city of Morvania, placed west of Dikiy Les. Whale hunting is extremely popular here.
1st Arctican War and Tsarstvo's formation Edit
The island of Morvania has been inhabited by humans and Orks alike for at least 4,000 years. Several tribes of the two different species coexisted for a short period of time, but social and cultural differences meant conflict was inevitable. No one remembers who struck the first blow (morvanians claim it were the orks, orks claim it were the morvanians), but the repercussions were severe, leading to the 1st Arctican War.
While scattered human tribes put their differences aside, temporarily forming an alliance that would ultimately become Morvyanskoye Tsarstvo several centuries later, the orks succumbed to internal conflict and lost the war. They were exiled to the northernmost part of the continent and several Kreposti were built by the morvanians to keep an eye on ork activities. Some tribes stayed on the island while others crossed the ice bridge that annually formed during winter into the continent of Arctica.
It was somewhere during this time of 'peace' among man and ork that the legendary Oborotney Korol' ('Werebear King' in common) rose to power and united the island under his banner, proclaiming himself Tsar of Morvania. It is often assumed morvanians share an affinity towards bears because of him and his offspring. These creatures are seen as sacred and treated with immense respect.
2nd Arctican War Edit
The Second Arctican War began when hordes of orks crossed the annually forming ice bridge from Arctica into Morvania several centuries ago, taking the nation by complete surprise.
It was largely assumed that the ork tribes that set out to the continent of Arctica after the First Arctican War perished to its harsh climatic conditions. How they managed to survive this long was now a question of the uttermost importance, but one that would have to wait, for the ork troops were rapidly advancing through morvanian territory.
Without previous knowledge of an attack, several Kreposti fell to the ork army and what military survived fled to the large cities, where they thought they'd be safe.
By the time news of the onslaught reached the Tsar's ears (now a descendant of the Oborotney Korol') and his main generals, several northern cities, namely Kuznevodsk, Severopol and Tikhograd were taken and their population, or what survived of it, was enslaved. In a desperate last ditch effort, he sent out couriers instructing the people of every city that remained under morvanian control to raze everything to the ground, denying the ork forces much needed food and shelter from the harsh winter.
In a few weeks, the ork hordes had swept through much of the island, pillaging and enslaving every city in their wake, taking only minor casualties, and were now knocking on Slayarsk's, doors. Not managing to penetrate the thick reinforced walls, clearly a feat of morvanian engineering at the time, they set up a siege.
Nevertheless, luck was in Morvania's favour: without any nearby settlements or cities to occupy (since instructions to raze them were strictly followed), the rudimentary ork encampments wouldn't survive through the winter and the remaining morvanian army stationed in the capital had a real chance to repel their attackers. After merely a month of siege, ork numbers had drastically dropped and their army was in a terrible shape, plagued by cold, hunger and disease. It was agreed by the Tsar and his counselors that the time to strike was now. A plan was quickly drafted by General Petr Nikolayevich Bakov that involved the now famous morvanian Bear Regiments and it was a tremendous success, forcing the hordes to retreat. Following the battle, league by league the morvanians were gaining territory back and it was now only a matter of time before Morvania's full glory had been restored.
Rebuilding period and the Great Arctican Expedition Edit
With the ork issue resolved, a reformation period began in the nation of Morvania: several new Kreposti were built on the northern end of the island and those that had been taken back were rebuilt and reinforced, both structurally and in terms of manpower, forming the Severnaya Linya ('Northern Line' in common). Major cities had large stone walls raised in hopes of being able to better resist attacks and military service was now obligatory for 2 years, starting at the age of 17. With the country's infrastructure somewhat destroyed for the time being, the Morvanian Monarchy lost a lot of favour from the populace and the People's Assembly was created in order to pacify the masses, promising them some form of power in the government. More political reforms were later introduced, namely the formation of a State Council that served as the primary advisory body to the Tsar.
Having stabilised the nation's internal situation and with rebuilding steadily progressing, the Tsar was left with but one problem: finding out how the orks survived in the cold Arctican continent.
Seeking definitive answers, the Great Arctican Expedition was carefully planned and executed, leading to the discovery of Zogorra, an ork nation on a continent behind Arctica.
Morvania is currently the largest exporter of iron in the known world. In addition to that, they also export other mineral resources, timber and weapons, which moves their economy.
The country's government is an Autocracy with the Tsar holding all the power.
State Council Edit
The State Council was established a short time after the 2nd Arctican War as part of a period of reforms. It is the state's main advisory body to the Tsar, but has no effective power.
People's Assembly Edit
A gathering of nobles, representatives of merchants and townspeople used to enact major pieces of legislation or to decide controversial issues.
Close to 1/3 of morvanians live within the country's main cities and towns, with the rest living in scattered villages throughout the land. More than half live in the southern region of Krasny Bereg. The vast majority of morvanians are humans (~97%), of which a small percentage are Cossacks, while other races like orks, dwarves, elves or gnomes barely have a presence (<3%).
Morvanians are a very proud people who value education, arts but also strength.
